Walnut Elementary Student Receives $1,000 Scholarship

Congratulations to Walnut Elementary’s Emma L., a fifth grade student who was recently announced as a recipient of a $1,000 Carson Scholarship to use in the future for college! Emma’s academic excellence, and strong community involvement were key components for her receiving the award.

Emma L.Emma is one of 501 students nationwide who have been named 2018 Carson Scholars. The Carson Scholars Fund awards $1,000 college scholarships and recognition packages to students in grades 4 through 11 who excel academically, and are dedicated to serving their communities.

She submitted a detailed application that included her academic record as well as multiple examples of her community service. Emma’s community service includes volunteering with her church to paint and garden at Walnut on Action Serve Days, packing backpacks for Syrian refugee children, painting homes in a trailer park for the elderly, and helping student council design and paint Walnut’s logo in a recent school mural.

Emma and her family will be traveling to Carlsbad to attend an awards ceremony in honor of her achievement on May 6th.

Congratulations Emma, and Walnut Elementary!
