Colina Middle School Teacher Selected as CVUSD’s October Teacher of the Month

Christopher Catalano receives special recognition from Chamber of Commerce, District

Christopher Catalano is committed to making middle school a fun, exciting and accessible place for all of Colina Middle School's students.

Chris is a Physical Education Teacher and WEB (Where Everyone Belongs) Advisor for the school’s 6th through 8th grade students – however what he provides for students goes well beyond his official job title.

Chris Catalano accepts awardChris has been a teacher at Colina for the last twelve years and during this tenure, he has transformed the school’s WEB program into one that truly embodies the spirit of, “Where Everyone Belongs.” He spends his summer training middle school students to be WEB LEADERS so that they are well-equipped to take on the important role of mentor for the school’s newest middle school members – incoming 6th grade students. Over the years this training has morphed into a COUGAR CAMP which is now held for two days prior to orientation where students meet their WEB leaders and use icebreakers to make friends and have fun. More than name games and other “get to know you” activities, Chris has incorporated character education into WEB and regularly references best practices. Chris has students recognize their uniqueness and provides a safe environment for students to celebrate it. This program has quickly grown in popularity and is now being echoed by middle schools district-wide.

Chris carries the same enthusiasm from WEB into his teaching Physical Education. He individualizes and tailors assignments to meet the specific needs of students, which guides them towards success. He celebrates every child’s achievement, which helps to yield a sense of belonging.

Chris is constantly innovating and recently helped bring new units to the school such as Golf, Orienteering and Cooperative Games. He also actively volunteers his time to a variety of campus activities where he guides students to, “Work Hard, Make Friends and Have Fun.”

These are just a few of the reasons the Conejo Valley Unified School District and the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce Chris Catalano as the District’s October Teacher of the Month!

To celebrate Chris’s October Teacher of the Month recognition, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated him with gifts from their local businesses/organizations at a special surprise celebration on Tuesday, October 3rd. Additionally, members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CVUSD Interim Superintendent, Dr. Mark McLaughlin presented Chris with a commemorative plaque recognizing his achievement.

Thank you Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce members and congratulations Chris!
