Suzie St. John receives special recognition from Chamber of Commerce, District

The Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Conejo Valley Unified School District are teaming up once again to shine a light on educators with its 2017-2018 Teacher of the Month recognition program.

In a surprise celebration on Tuesday, September 17th Suzie St. John of EARTHS Magnet School received the first Teacher of the Month recognition award for the new school year! Suzie, CVUSD’s September Teacher of the Month, is a Resource Teacher for the K-5 school and has a deep understanding of the curriculum taught across all grade levels.

Suzie has been a Resource Teacher in the District for 13 years. She was selected as Teacher of the Month because of her dedication to engaging and supporting all students in learning by demonstrating the following key criteria:

1. Open doors by recognizing diverse needs of learners

2. Exhibit high professional standards

3. Engages with families and the community

Suzie implements a variety of teaching strategies for the K-5 curriculum and works closely with each grade level team and individual teachers to make sure the needs of all students are met.

She brings passion to everything she takes on – working closely with students, parents and families to ensure that they understand the importance of their involvement in their student’s progress and education.

Suzie is a leader and has been instrumental in the launching and implementation of the school’s new MTSS program by diligently training staff and actively coaching other teachers throughout the district.

She also serves as Teacher in Charge and is committed to creating a fun, welcoming and engaging environment for EARTHS students and their families with her coordination of extracurricular activities for the school. Suzie is fondly thought of as EARTHS’ biggest cheerleader and has been given the adopted nickname of “Suzie Sunshine” by her peers.

To celebrate Suzie’s September Teacher of the Month recognition, members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce congratulated her with gifts from their local businesses/organizations. Additionally, members from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce and CVUSD Interim Superintendent, Dr. Mark McLaughlin presented Suzie with a commemorative plaque recognizing her achievement.

Thank you Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce members and congratulations Suzie!
