Interdistrict Transfer

CVUSD is proud to serve hundreds of out-of-district students every school year. We value the contributions these students and their families bring to our schools. Below is helpful information to facilitate you as you begin the Interdistrict Transfer process. We look forward to meeting your student’s academic and extra-curricular passions!

Parents of students who reside outside of CVUSD boundaries who wish to attend a CVUSD school will need to complete an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement “permit” form. This form must be submitted to your local school district of residence for approval.

Approval to leave your district via the Interdistrict Transfer Agreement “permit” form must be granted in order to enroll in CVUSD. Your district of residence will forward the approved Interdistrict Transfer Agreement to CVUSD.

Please note: CVUSD cannot process applications unless and until the district of residence approves departure.

If you reside in Ventura County please use this Interdistrict Transfer Agreement Form.

If you reside within the boundaries of the Las Virgenes Unified School District please find interdistrict outgoing permit information here.

If you reside within the boundaries of the Oak Park Unified School District please contact their District office directly for the appropriate form.

If you reside within the Los Angeles Unified School District boundaries, please find the following interdistrict transfer agreement forms:

For the 2018-2019 school year, Interdistrict applications will be accepted beginning in January. Completed applications will be processed in the order they were received beginning in March.

Many CVUSD schools often have wait lists comprised of in-district students following the intradistrict school choice process. Interdistrict transfer requests for schools with wait lists may receive an approval/denial very late in the summer or just prior to the beginning of the 2018/19 school year.

Parents/guardians of prospective CVUSD students are welcome and encouraged to attend school information/orientation nights and/or schedule a tour with school administration. Please call the school site(s) directly for more information and tour availability.

PLEASE NOTE:
Non-resident students cannot register, obtain a registration packet or select a class schedule until the Interdistrict transfer application has been approved. If there is a wait list to attend a school, applications will be placed on a wait list by the date the completed application is received (this includes the interdistrict transfer application, even if it is not yet approved by your district of residence) and all supporting documentation.

Completed Interdistrict Transfer applications will be processed in the order they were received beginning in March.

Once applications begin to be processed, please allow for two weeks time to pass. Parents/guardians will receive a response by e-mail. If an e-mail address has not been included in the transfer request, parent/guardians will receive a response via U.S. Mail. The approved applications are also sent to the school requested and to the district of residence. Once approved permits are received, parents and students should visit their selected school to register. You will be contacted by e-mail or phone if there are any questions regarding your application.

Regarding Elementary School Interdistrict transfer requests, please note: it may not be known if space is available for your child until the summer months or possibly as late as the first day of school. In ALL cases you will receive a response via e-mail or U.S. Mail.

NO action will be taken on Elementary Interdistrict Transfer applications unless and until a space is available, and can be offered. You will be contacted when space becomes available.

No. Effective January 1, 2011, AB 2444, incorporated into Education Code 46600, eliminated the requirement for an annual written release from the resident school district and approval from the receiving school district to remain enrolled in the receiving school district. Once released and approved, a student may remain at the approved school through the highest grade level at that school. Parents do need to submit an Interdistrict Transfer Agreement “permit” when their child promotes from TK to kindergarten or elementary school to middle school or from middle school to high school. For example, a student approved to attend a K-5 elementary school does not need additional approvals until they wish to enter a 6-8 middle school. A student approved for a 6-8 middle school does not need additional approvals until they wish to enter a 9-12 high school.

Please note: Interdistrict transfers may be revoked at any time due to poor attendance, failure to uphold appropriate behavior standards, and failure to make appropriate academic effort.

All applications requesting release from CVUSD must follow the following steps:

Step One:
Complete this Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form and be sure to include a current email address. CVUSD Student Support Services will print student transcripts, attendance records, and discipline records for each interdistrict application.

Step Two:

Information detailing reason for request and required documentation can be found on the back page of the Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form. Step Three
Submit the completed Interdistrict Transfer Agreement form, all accompanying school-related documentation AND documentation to support the request for transfer to the appropriate, Elementary OR Secondary, CVUSD Instructional Services office.
