CAASPP Information

California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) is an annual assessment process that occurs each spring. This year the testing window for our District begins as early as March 8 and concludes by June 13. For your child's schedule, please contact your child's school.

You will receive this year’s individual score reports in fall 2017.

CAASPP is a measurement that includes several types of assessments:

Smarter Balanced Assessment System (SBAC)

  • These tests are given to students in grades 3-8 and 11.
  • These tests assess performance and progress in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
  • These tests are computer-based and adaptive, meaning the test can more readily adjust questions to a student’s demonstrated understanding on certain questions.
  • These tests have questions that use realistic context. Also, there are open-ended and short essay opportunities for students to demonstrate knowledge and creativity.
  • These tests are not timed so students have plenty of time to do their best.
  • These tests have alternate versions called the California Alternate Assessments (CAA) for a student whose Individualized Education Program (IEP) requires an alternate version of the test.

California Science Test (CAST) – Pilot Year 2017

  • The California Science Pilot test will be given to students in grades 5, 8, and 10 or 12.
  • Your student will participate in the trial of test items for this future assessment.
  • No scores will be released for this test.

The CAASPP test has replaced the Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR), as the new state academic testing program. CAASPP is a system intended to provide information that can be used to monitor student progress and ensure that all students leave high school ready for college and career. The 2016 CAASPP included computer adaptive tests in English Language Arts and Mathematics as well as paper-based tests for Science.
