MEET THE CVUSD BOARD OF EDUCATION

CVUSD Board of Education Members

Tim Stephens pictureTimothy G. Stephens
Term ending in 2014

Term: November 1998 to November 2014

In 1998 I was elected to the CVUSD School Board, after serving for 25 years as an elementary principal in 3 district schools. As a former principal of a "National Blue Ribbon School" I've tried to bring a commitment and dedication to creating educational excellence and building award winning programs for all district students. I believe JOB ONE for our district is to assure that there is a knowledgeable and skilled teacher in every classroom in every school in CVUSD. Achieving this goal guarantees that all students will reach their educational potential.

Term: November 1998 to November 2014

I have lived in Thousand Oaks with my husband, Barry, since 1987.  We have three children, all graduates of Conejo Valley schools.  I grew up in Buffalo, New York, and attained a B.S. Degree in Mathematics from St. Lawrence University.  I began my career as a software programmer for IBM and ended as a systems analyst for Mobil Chemical Company.

I have always been an active volunteer in my children’s schools, serving at various times as secretary, treasurer, auditor and president for PFA or PTA.  I currently serve on the executive board for Conejo Council and the Twelfth District PTA.  I strive to remain involved with the parent community and informed on parental issues.

Since being elected to the School Board in 1998, I have served twice as president, multiple times as clerk to the Board and representative to the Family Life Committee, the Conejo Coalition for Youth and Families and the Committee on School District Organization.  I am currently serving on the boards of the Tri-county Education Coalition and the Ventura County School Boards Association.  Last spring I was inducted into Delta Kappa Gamma, the education honorary.

Term: November 2004 to November 2014

I am married to a special education teacher.  We have two children in this school district.  I work for the Los Angeles City Fire Department and am assigned to a paramedic assessment engine company.  I bring an independent voice to the board - someone who whenever possible tries to accommodate the wishes of the parents and taxpayers.  My mission is excellent public schools and promoting traditional family values without property tax increases.

Term:  November 2008 to November 2016

I grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Parsons College with a BA in Education. I taught kindergarten and second grade in Port Byron, New York and moved to California after my marriage to my husband, Bob. We moved to the Conejo Valley specifically for the good school system.  Our two children are proud graduates of CVUSD schools.

I continue to serve on our local PTA Council and attend District Advisory Council meetings in order to hear what parents in our community want for their children's education.  I have volunteered in my children's classrooms from the beginning and understand that parent involvement is essential for children to do well in school.  I have served on school site, city, county and state PTA boards, the county school-to-career committee, Tri-County Education Coalition as well as the district budget committee.

My goals for the district include updating the technology infrastructure, getting more technology into the classrooms and prudent fiscal management so that the educational needs of all students in the Conejo can be met.  I look forward to working with my fellow board members and will keep the education of our children as my first priority.

Term:  November 2008 to November 2016

I received my Bachelors of Science from University of Denver and my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University.   After eighteen years in equine practice here in Ventura County, I am now teaching Horse Science at Pierce College and Zoology at Moorpark College.

My husband Patrick and I have two children who graduated from CVUSD schools.  While they were students, I assumed leadership roles in the PTA, District Advisory Council and the Band Boosters.   My experiences as a parent, school volunteer and college instructor inform my efforts to meet the challenges faced by the district.

As a member of the School Board, I try hard to stay informed, communicate with parents, and work productively with my fellow Board Members.  I believe in setting goals and measuring our success in reaching those goals.  The CVUSD is a great district, working hard to become greater and I am proud to be a part of that effort.  In these difficult fiscal times, we must remain focused on doing what is good for our children.
